Lambda1VR

Game Modifications and Expansions

Lambda1VR is capable via the Xash engine of running a number of modifications. Below you will find instructions for modifying the textures in the main game.

It is also possible for the Xash engine and the VR implementation to run full game modifications. We are working on testing the more popular ones to ensure that everything is working. This includes fixing any weapon offsets and checking unique game functionality is present. As of now Lambda1VR supports the official expansions Half Life: Blue Shift and Half Life: Opposing Force. See below for instructions

Option 1 (AI Upscaled Textures)

This option is for people who wish to keep the exact "feel" of the game but would like sharper textures.

  • Navigate to your Steam Library folder and and locate the Half Life folder (typically: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life)
  • Inside you will find a folder called "valve_hd". Copy the entire folders contents (not the folder itself) into the "valve" folder on the Quest (This may take a long time). We recommend doing this via standard Windows Explorer rather than SideQuest.
  • Download the AI Upscaled Textures from here
  • In the Zip file you will find the folder "STEP 4/valve". Copy the contents of this folder (not the folder itself) into the "valve" folder on your Quest (This may take a long time).
  • In the Zip file you will find the folder "STEP 5/valve". Copy the contents of this folder (not the folder itself) into the "valve" folder on your Quest (This may take a long time).
  • Start Lambda1VR. Go to options, Video and tick "allow materials".

Option 2 (HL GOLD Textures)

This is a pack painstakingly adapted from HL:GOLD by "Crowbar" by close project friend VR_Bummser. He had to rename some hundred textures (about 900) by hand to make them work correctly in Lambda1vr. It now uses xash engines system for textures replacement instead of the detailed_texture method. This pack will improve the look of HL drastically . The textures are sharper and clearer, while they stay mostly very true to the original (there are some colour and style changes).
This customized HL: Gold_hd pack includes:

  • HD Textures.
  • Some remastered sound effects, but true to the original.
  • Improved sprites and decals.
  • Higher resolution skyboxes.
  • New fanart start screen background and fancy startup music from the PS2 version of HL.
  • G-Man and HEV suite are super high poly models (The few occasions you see those two , it's nice to have them look very good.)

Follow the below steps to install:

  • Download the HL_Gold_HD from here
  • Extract the zip "HL_Gold_HD" to your PC. Copy the whole HL_Gold_HD folder to your Quest to the folder "xash" so it looks like this quest/xash/HL_Gold_HD (CAN TAKE UP TO 45 minutes to copy depending on your USB port speed)
  • Download and copy this file to the xash folder on the Quest (overwriting the existing commandline.txt). Alternatively replace the contents of you existing commandline.txt with:
    xash3d -log --supersampling 1.25 --msaa 2 --cpu 4 --gpu 4 -game HL_Gold_HD
  • Start Lambda1VR. Go to options, Video and tick "allow materials".
Optional: If you already played without the hd textures and wanna use your old savegames, copy your old savegames from xash/valve/saves to hl_gold_hd. Copy the whole folder.

To switch back to original textures download and copy this file to the xash folder

Half Life: Blue Shift

Important Note

This is just an engine port, no game assets are included whatsoever. YOU WILL NEED TO LEGALLY OWN BLUESHIFT IF YOU WISH TO PLAY IT IN VR USING LAMBDA1VR.

Blue Shift can be purchased on Steam

Instructions

Follow the instructions below to play Half Life: Blue Shift on Lambda1VR

  • Ensure you have the main game working on Lambda1VR prior to trying Blue Shift
  • Install the Blue Shift Game on your PC via Steam. It is likely you will need the base Half Life game installed as well.
  • Navigate to your Steam Library folder and and locate the Half Life folder (typically: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life)
  • Inside you will find a folder called "bshift". Copy the entire folder "bshift" (not just the contents) to the "xash" folder on the Quest (This may take a long time). We recommend doing this via standard Windows Explorer rather than SideQuest.
  • Download and copy this file to the xash folder on the Quest (overwriting the existing commandline.txt). Alternatively replace the contents of you existing commandline.txt with:
    xash3d -log --supersampling 1.25 --msaa 2 --cpu 4 --gpu 4 -game bshift

Please note that whilst this mod is active tha main game cannot be played. To revert to the main game download and copy this file to the xash folder

HD Textures (optional)

To play with HD textures follow the below instructions. We recommend the AI enhanced ReSourced textures for this mod.

  • You should first follow the instructions above for installing HD textures into the main game as this expansion borrows textures
  • Navigate to your Steam Library folder and and locate the Half Life folder (typically: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life)
  • Inside you will find a folder called "bshift_hd". Copy the entire folders contents (not the folder itself) into the "bshift" folder you created above on the Quest (This may take a long time). We recommend doing this via standard Windows Explorer rather than SideQuest.
  • Download the AI Upscaled Textures from here
  • In the below two steps it is possible that the AI Upscaled folders contain config.cfg and gameinfo.txt files. These should not be copied over. If you believe you have copied them over then delete both from the bshift folder on the Quest. Our mod will recreate these.
  • In the Zip file you will find the folder "STEP 4/bshift_unlocked". Copy the contents of this folder (not the folder itself) into the "bshift" folder on your Quest (This may take a long time).
  • In the Zip file you will find the folder "STEP 5/bshift_unlocked". Copy the contents of this folder (not the folder itself) into the "bshift" folder on your Quest (This may take a long time).
  • After starting the game go to the video options and ensure you have "Allow Materials" on and we also recommend for VBO to be turned off
